Lenzing Fibers

What is viscose ?

Viscose, also known as rayon, is a man-made cellulosic fiber made mostly from wood. The wood is shredded into pellets and undergoes a chemical process to be converted into yarn. It is the third most used fiber globally, after polyester and cotton. The wood used for conventional viscose, if not sourced carefully, can come from Ancient and Endangered forests. Additionally, the chemical process still requires the use of highly toxic chemicals.

Our alternative: Lenzing Fibers

TENCEL™ Lyocell and LENZING™ ECOVERO™ are both brand names and trademarks of Lenzing AG.

Both fibers are new generations of viscose, made from wood from sustainably managed forest farms, eliminating the risk of deforestation and protecting the fragile ecosystems of endangered forests. Because they're made from wood, and if manufactured without toxic chemicals, they're a great alternative to synthetics because they can decompose much quicker if landfilled.

LENZING™ ECOVERO™  Viscose

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ is an innovative viscose with a lower environmental impact. According to Higg MSI (a renowned tool that compares the environmental impact of different fibers), the manufacturing process from raw material to fiber production, saves up to 50% water and 50% CO₂ emissions, compared to conventional viscose.

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose fibers have also been certified with the EU Ecolabel for textile products, a label that is awarded to products and services meeting high environmental standards throughout their life-cycle: from raw material extraction to production, distribution, and disposal.

TENCEL™ Lyocell

TENCEL™ Lyocell is the third generation of cellulosic fibers. The wood pulp is certified EU Ecolabel, and the manufacturing process is very innovative. Lenzing has developed a closed-loop system, which reuses 99% of the non-toxic solvent and recovers almost all the water needed.

More on Lenzing AG

Lenzing AG is the leader in innovative cellulosic fibers. They are committed to sourcing wood only from certified forests. 99% of the wood that Lenzing uses is FSC and PEFC-certified. FSC and PEFC are non-profit, independent organizations working towards a long-term, sustainable, and viable use of the world’s forests.

Due to this commitment, they have been ranked first in the Hot Button yearly report by Canopy for years. Canopy is a forest conservation organization that audits companies on their wood sourcing, with requirements going beyond FCS and PEFC standards.

Additionally, Lenzing AG is aiming to be net-zero by 2050 and have an ambitious climate plan. Their pulp mills are self-sufficient; they produce bioenergy from biomass remaining after pulp production. When using Lenzing fibers in our garments, these initiatives also help us to reduce our carbon footprint.
